Scott

Coach

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

  • How long have you been coaching at CrossFit Iron Duke?

    Since June 2024

  • What made you want to become a coach?

I really enjoy ,and get an energy boost from, helping others to achieve their goals and overcome their challenges. But I also wanted to be far better technically and coaching is a sure way of making sure you know your onions! I also value the virtuosity that surrounds CrossFit and as a Coach I am able to be part of a team that maintains the high standards of form we are proud of

  • Favourite movement to coach?

To be honest I like most – but if I have to choose, then probably T2B – it is technical but very achievable and so the reward of seeing progress is quite fast

  • What made you start CrossFit?

I was looking for something that was challenging; I also yearned a sense of community and I wanted a sport that was holistic and multifunctional. I found it! Over time I have realised that the list of things I need to work on is far greater than the list of things I don’t. And that is the challenge I wanted/want

  • What is your favourite movement and why?

Bar Muscle Ups – because it took me a very, very long time to master them and that encapsulates the spirit of CF. They are a whole body and mind exercise with significant technical content and the reward of doing them is proportional to the effort it takes to be able to do them

  • What is your proudest moment at CFID?

Apart from actually becoming a Coach (which was amazing), it is difficult to single out one moment – there are lots. Every time I manage to help someone achieve the next progression of a movement, or a PB, it gives me great joy

  • What would you say to anyone wanting to start CrossFit?

Don’t listen to all the negative rubbish that many spout. Come and give it a try (or come and see the older generation giving it a go and making huge progress) and I promise you that it will lead to  a fitter, stronger, more mobile, healthier you

  • Is there anything else we should know about you?

I am hoping to qualify as a personal trainer in the New Year.

  • If you were to play anyone in a movie, who would it be and why?

Any role played by George Clooney derrr – clearly you have already noticed the resemblance!

CrossFit is located on the Aston Road estate in Waterlooville.

Go over the roundabout at Sainsburys (this store will be on your right), and stay on Aston Road.  Aston Road veers around to the right and we are in the top left hand corner, located behind some big black gates.  If in doubt head for Sentry Storage and we are two doors down from them.
